Where Has This Talent Been Hiding
Watching Jack and The Beanstalk perform live was a revelation, both transcendent and. His guitar work was a modern version of some of the best blues guitar I have ever seen, Clapton ain't got nothin' on this guy. I had never even seen a live clip of him before the show. Anyone named Van Zant would have been blown away by the rifs, the melodies, and the relentless rhythm coming from this man's guitar.
With as much as he mentions whiskey, he is either a disaster or tuned to his own pain and experience. Everything about this guy is stripped down and real. His band is a stripped-down affair, just a drummer, base, and his wife providing secondary vocals made the larger than life. I'll reckon the latter as he shredded his guitar to share his music.
Performing live the music I had only heard as recording, Stapelton brought even more the emotion and raw power of his writing/arranging. However, he didn't make his own music undistinguishable from his album sounds....just amplified. This was by far the best show I have seen in years, and I will see him again, to be sure.
